My birthday came and went one more time this year. I have passed the age where new privileges are obtained or any other bragging rights, except if wisdom truly does come with age. So, I have to find other ways to get excited about my birthday. The way for me to get excited is with free stuff!
I must admit, embarrassingly, that I was at McDonald’s last week and noticed on the place mat an ad that said free cheeseburger or breakfast sandwich for birthdays. That got me going into looking for more ways to stretch my birthday dollar.
Another thing I got is a gift card from Express for $10. Admittedly, this is because I have a credit card from them that I no longer use. So basically, Express gives me a free pair of socks every year. I don’t consider $10 off a $100 pair of jeans a deal, so I will stick with the socks that are less than $10 total.
Another freebie I cashed in on was free chocolate fondue at the melting pot. This is a tough one because it is rather strange to go into a sit-down restaurant with the intention of having no bill. Technically, this wasn’t free because you do have to tip the waitress.
So that is how I cashed in for my birthday this year. I found a cool site about the topic with many more freebies for the birthday. There are way too many things to be able to use here in one year, but it should serve as a pretty good list to fit many different people’s interests. For example, front and center, I didn’t realize ACE Hardware had a deal I could use. That could mean a roll of tape, nails or screws, or other odds and ends that are must haves for DIY projects. The disclaimer is you will have to check each deal carefully. Using my above list as an example, the McDonald’s sandwich required no sign up, the Express gift card is because I still have their credit card, and The Melting Pot required an email sign up. Certain deals may just not be worth the hassle.
